Basic Info
Name:Toris Laurinaitis [Lithuania]
Birthdate:02-16
Location:Lithuania
Bio
Character: Lithuania/Lietuvos Respublilka (country names), Toris Laurinaitis (human name), Liet (nickname his "friend" gave him)
Series/Fandom: Axis Powers Hetalia
Original or Template version: Original

Age: Actually around 1000 (was first called Liut in 1009); looks 19
Gender: Male
Species: The human personification of Lithuania; pretty much appears human most of the time.
Sexuality: Not something that matters to him much. Probably bisexual under the layers of trauma.
Housing: Lawrence Street, Saltire House, Laundry Cove
Marked: No

Appearance: Lithuania is fairly short and rather feminine-looking, with pale skin and a delicate face that allow him to pass fairly easily as a girl. His hair is light brown and falls down to around his shoulders in a slightly wavy style, although he sometimes pulls it back into a small ponytail. His large eyes are a brilliant shade of blue-green and usually quite wide. He generally wears a green military officer's uniform with a dress shirt and tie underneath. Invisible to the world are the wide range of scars that cover his torso, most of which seem to be from whipping.

Personality: Despite everything that's happened to him, Lithuania's a good-natured person at heart. He'll do everything he can to help his few friends, and he likes taking care of people and mothering them. He's a bit introverted and shy, but once he warms up to someone, he's a very good friend.

However, the various hardships and problems that he's had to go through have left their marks, both physically and mentally. He's very nervous most of the time, and even more reserved than he would be naturally. While he longs for the good times of the past, he senses strongly that they will never come again. He tends to take a subservient role, even when he doesn't have to, and he's usually just grateful when whoever's in control is nicer than usual. While he sometimes makes attempts to reach full independence, he's quite used to this ending in failure. He often wakes up in tears or ends up breaking down with rage or pain, although he can usually recover fairly quickly.

Still, there's something in him that won't quite give up, which can be seen as a blessing or a curse. Even if his 'friends' abuse him and ignore him, he won't stop trying to help them at any cost. He's a doormat in this regard, but it's out of compassion, not just weakness.

He loves to study martial arts, although he rarely gets to use them, and he's an avid reader. He also has a love for good food, and he tends to use a wide variety of condiments (variations on mayo and ketchup being his favorites).

Abilities/Strengths: His persistence and ability to struggle on. He may lose all the time, but he never fully gives up - part of him will always try to find a way to move on. This leads to a fairly optimistic attitude toward life, even if it rarely shows.

Weaknesses: At this point, while he may have inner strength, it's easy to crack him on the surface. Simply being around Russia can reduce him to subservience, and thinking about his memories of Poland too hard can crack him to a lesser degree.

History: Lithuania was part of the Baltic tribes in the distant past, along with his brothers Estonia and Latvia. By 1009 he had come to be recognized as an independent entity, and in 1250 the Kingdom of Lithuania (which soon became the Grand Duchy of Lithuania) was formed, partially as a way for Lithuania to maintain his paganism in the face of increasing pressure from the Teutonic Knights. There were some early troubles, but with effort Lithuania carved himself out a home that stretched from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea.

From 1377 on, Poland began trying to convince his friend to convert to Christianity. Lithuania was reluctant, but after a great deal of pressure from Poland, he finally relented. The two became closer and closer after that, and the two found themselves sharing a great deal in common.

In 1569, this lead to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, or the Republic of Two Nations. Poland and Lithuanian moved in together, and while at first this worked fine, there came to be some problems - most notably, Poland expected Lithuania to follow Polish culture, speak Polish, and do the brunt of the work. Still, despite Lithuania's status as a lackey, he was fairly happy. Though they were mostly a peaceful farming group (providing most of the grain for Europe), they still managed to achieve a vast amount of territory, and held their own against the world for some time.

This all changed due to the partitions instituted by Prussia, Russia, and Austria between 1772 and 1795. Though both struggled for some time, in the end Russia claimed Lithuania for himself, despite Lithuania's protests. Although he begged Poland to help him as he was pulled away, Poland was too dazed to fight and merely commented on how funny Lithuania looked beaten up - a memory that haunts Lithuania to this day.

Lithuania found himself living under Russia's control, and despite attempts to regain his independence and a successful effort to revive his language, he remained trapped. Things only worsened as Russia's slow deterioration into insanity occurred, and Lithuania found himself living under worse and worse conditions. Most of his scars originate from this period, although he's certainly gained more since.

When Germany briefly claimed Lithuania in WWI, it was almost a relief - especially because it meant that when Germany lost the war, it allowed Lithuania to become an independent nation once again. However, things were still far from perfect. Not only were multiple forces struggling to claim the newly-independent nation, said nation was nearly bankrupt. In the end, one third of the country's population moved to America to seek jobs, and the nation's spirit followed them.

Living with America actually wasn't so bad. The man, while a boisterous idiot at times, was also quite friendly and kind. Lithuania had a great deal of fun cooking for him and taking care of him, and even spent some time with America's bizarre alien friends. Everything seemed to be going well for once - until the Great Depression hit.

In the aftermath, there was no way America could care for Lithuania any more. Lithuania, before he even really knew what was happening, found himself being taken away by Russia once again - and Russia was none too pleased about Lithuania's time with America. Lithuania found himself worked harder than ever, especially after WWII started, although he had his brothers (still living with Russia) to provide some comfort.

In 1941, Germany invaded Russia's home and took control of Lithuania. The poor boy tried to put up some resistance, but it was to no avail, and he suffered badly under Germany's control.

Between the summer of 1944 and the beginning of 1945, Russia managed to reclaim Lithuania as his own. Lithuania found himself back where he had started.

Finally, after one particularly bad day, Lithuania went to go to sleep/pass out, and when he woke up, he was somewhere completely different.
